Term = ‘kiwi’
The term kiwi in America to most means a small hairy fruit, known as a kiwi.
You find it in fruit stands, on signs..etc reinforcing this veiw of kiwi being a fruit.
Personally I don’t want to be a fruit, like I am on Queer Nation or something.
A KIWI is a person from the country known as New Zealand/Aotearoa.
Some Americans are aware of this country and often comment on its beauty.
In New Zealand what Americans call a kiwi we call a ‘Kiwifruit’.
This writer remembers a time when the ‘kiwifruit’ was called a ‘Chinese Gooseberry’.
Just to add to the confusion. ………..
BUt Sir Edmund Hillary the first man to climb the highest mountain in the world (Mt Everest) was a ‘kiwi’. He was certainly no fruit. ![]()

yes I have Im a kiwi on my car plates and I get a few funny looks and a lot of questions .I wish that New Zealand had never called fruit a kiwi .Wasnt it a chinese gooseberry.?
Yea, ‘kiwi fruit’ is a ‘chinese gooseberry’. Who was the idiot that decided to call it kiwi fruit? A kiwi is a flightless bird unique to New Zealand that we hold up as a national emblem and dearly associate ourselves with by name because it is so unique. What cloud did that idiot have his head in to change the name of a fruit that is not even ours to incorporate the name of the bird of our ‘national idenity’?
I like beinging called a Kiwi, as an idenity of our nation.
